Father's Day
One of the shining qualities of the man I love is his fathering heart. From our first phone conversation before we met in person, to the month we spent with his twin brother’s little family and baby nephew right after we began dating, to watching his bond with his younger siblings (he has twelve!), I *knew* beyond a shadow of a doubt that he’d step beautifully into the role of Father someday (and it is one of the many reasons I chose to marry him. Keep that in mind, my single sisters — wait for the kind of good man you absolutely KNOW will be a wonderful father someday. It is so important.)
From the very moment Weston arrived in our life, Daniel’s love for his son makes me stop and watch in awe. Sacrifice, patience, gentleness, grace, and strength color all he does in regard to his son. But if I had to choose his strongest quality as a father? I’d say joy. He fathers with a heart of pleasure, delight, and enjoyment. Even in the hard moments, his overriding heart and spirit is joy.
"I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love. To them I was like one who lifts a little child to the cheek, and I bent down to feed them." (Hosea 11:4)
Happy Father’s Day to my love, my dad, my father in law, my brother in law, and all the good men who love on children well — your work matters enormously.
