DIY Hair Mask
Last week, I shared on Instagram Stories about my DIY hair and face masks, and many of you said you’d like to hear more about them! I love to know what other gals swear by for their hair and skin — especially if it’s DIY and natural! It’s just so fun, empowering, simple, easy, and enjoyable to spend time mixing up potions that make us feel pampered, healed, and cared for. Anyone who knows me well knows I am all about that nighttime bath life ;) So, a hair and face mask goes along with a bath perfectly!
Over time, I’m planning to share some of my favorite tried and true beauty DIY’s, starting with this one — I mix up and use this DIY Hair Mask once per week on my hair. This sounds silly, but if you know me and some of my sweet boy’s birth story, you’ll know that I’m kinda proud that I’m at the point where I can be around Castor Oil again (let’s just say I had a terrible experience with Castor Oil during labor) and it’s proof we can heal.
DIY Hair Mask Recipe:
Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil (warmed)
2 Tablespoons Castor Oil
3-5 Drops of Lavender Oil
(I use and feel most comfortable with
Young Living — buy it here)
3-5 Drops Cedarwood Oil
What You’ll Need:
Small Mixing Bowl (I use pretty Milk Glass from our wedding)
Directions:
Pour the warmed coconut oil (you can warm it by holding the container under hot water or placing it in the microwave for a little bit to soften) and castor oil into mixing bowl. Add essential oils. Stir and enjoy the calming scents. I am obsessed with both of these oils because they’re not only fabulous for helping support hair health, but they aid in sleep support as well. I diffuse Lavender and Cedarwood every night in our bedroom, bathroom, and Weston’s bedroom. This is partly why I use them for this recipe — they calm anxiety, encourage sleep, AND make my hair healthier…. what more could a girl want?! :)
Stand near the bathroom sink, before your bath or shower. Place towel on your neck and scoop oil onto hair, working it from the scalp to the ends, applying it throughout. Brush gently through, if needed, with your little comb. Make sure you cover your roots in the oils, especially. Tie hair up in hair ties and then place the shower cap or a head scarf or towel over your head.
Relax and enjoy the naturally calming scents for 30-45 minutes.
I usually relax in the tub, watch a show with Hubby, read a bit of a book, or do my nails.
Shower and rinse mask out of hair.
(Be careful in the shower because the oil can make it extra slippery!)
Shampoo, condition, and rinse.
Repeat once per week. Consistency is key. The more you do this, the healthier your hair will be :)
